There is a particular kind of moment that occasionally interrupts a crusade — when a preacher stops mid-message, and something entirely unplanned comes out.
It happened at Light Up Ibadan.
Prophet Odekunle Epaphras, one of the key ministers of the night, was delivering his message when he paused to reflect on how he had come to be standing there. On the same platform, at the same event, was Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God.
And then he said it, his voice giving way:
“I only saw Pastor Adeboye in my dreams; I never knew I would share a pulpit with him in my life.”
He went on to reveal that when Pastor Femi Emmanuel confirmed the invitation to minister at Light Up Ibadan, he had been so overwhelmed that he burst into tears.
Why that sentence carried so much
To understand why the moment landed the way it did, you have to understand what Pastor Adeboye represents to a Nigerian Christian of a certain generation.
For millions of people, he has been a constant presence for their entire adult lives — Holy Ghost Service, the Redemption Camp, a voice that has been in the background of Nigerian Christianity for decades. He is not simply a well-known pastor. For many, he is the figure through whom they first understood what a man of God was supposed to look like.
To have seen someone only in dreams and then to find yourself standing beside them is a specific kind of vertigo. It is not celebrity excitement. It is the collapse of a distance you had assumed was permanent.
That is what broke him on the platform.
What it reveals about the trajectory
There is a version of ministry success that arrives gradually — denominational structures, seniority, invitations that escalate one rung at a time until a national platform feels like the natural next step.
That is not this trajectory.
Prophet Epaphras built Comfort Life Mission International largely through video — prayer sessions and messages in Yoruba circulating on TikTok, Facebook and YouTube, reaching an audience scattered far beyond any single congregation. It is one of the first Nigerian ministries to grow primarily this way.
What that produces is enormous reach arriving very fast, without the institutional ladder that would have prepared him for it. So the invitation did not feel like a next step. It felt like an impossibility, and he responded to it the way a person responds to something impossible.
The tears were not humility performed. They were the honest reaction of someone who had not had time to become accustomed to where he had arrived.
The part worth taking away
Most of us will never be invited to share a platform with the person we most admire in our field. But almost everyone has a version of that gap — a distance between where you are and something you have quietly wanted, that you have privately concluded is not for you.
Three things in this moment are worth sitting with.
He had seen it before it happened, and did not treat that as a plan. He described seeing Pastor Adeboye in dreams over many years. He did not treat those dreams as entitlement or as a strategy. He kept working, and the thing arrived from a direction he was not managing.
He did not pretend to be unmoved. There is enormous pressure on public figures, and particularly on Nigerian pastors, to project unshakeable composure. Weeping on a platform in front of thousands is not the safe option. It cost him nothing in the end and it is the reason anyone remembers the night.
He named the distance out loud. He could have simply preached and let the significance go unmentioned. Saying I only saw him in my dreams acknowledged, publicly, that he had once been far away from this. Very few people at the top of anything are willing to describe the bottom clearly.
Light Up Ibadan
The crusade itself is a large gathering that draws prominent Nigerian ministers to the city, with Pastor Femi Emmanuel among those behind the invitations for the edition in question.
For a ministry that had grown through phone screens rather than through denominational networks, an invitation of that kind functions as a threshold — the point at which an online following becomes recognised within the wider Nigerian church.
A closing thought
Ministry stories usually get told from the destination. The testimony is delivered by someone who has already arrived, smoothed into a narrative where each step led logically to the next.
This one was told from the middle of the moment, before there was time to arrange it into anything. He was standing where he had never expected to stand, and he said so, and his voice went.
That is a more useful thing to hear than a polished testimony. Whatever you are waiting on and have quietly written off — the thing you only see in dreams — the honest version of arriving there does not look composed. It looks like this.
